MARINETTE, Wis–Waupaca Foundry will be fined $234,000 for incidents that led to workplace injuries. The fines stem from workers having fingers amputated at a Foundry plant in Marinette earlier this year.
In the first incident, a worker got his hand stuck in a conveyor belt and a discharge chute, resulting in the loss of a fingertip in April. Eleven days later, another employee got a had caught between a part and a grinding wheel, also losing a fingertip.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration found that Waupaca Foundry lacked adequate machine guarding and energy control procedures in place. The company had been fined for previous violations in 2019 and 2021.
Waupaca Foundry has three weeks to comply with the orders or contest the findings.
