WAUPACA, Wis–Criminal charges are filed in connection with a fatal hit and run crash in Waupaca County. Evan Barnick is facing counts of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle, Hit and Run Resulting in Death, O-W-I Third Offense, Operating While Revoked, and Failing to Install an Ignition Interlock Device.
According to the criminal complaint, the 20-year old Barnick had been drinking before he hit and killed Gerald Pagel along County Road “W” on October 29th. He then allegedly drove off.
Despite his age, Barnick has two previous drunk driving convictions and was ordered by the court to have an ignition interlock device on his vehicle. He has entered pleas of “not guilty” to all of the charges. No trial date has been set.
