Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take 12-15-23
But Mr. Official, it’s your job to tell me I’ve lined up offsides! Umm, no it isn’t!
Maybe you caught the end of the Kansas City-Buffalo NFL game on Sunday, when Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney scored on a wild play to give the Chiefs the lead, only to have it called back because Toney had lined up offsides…yes, on offense!
The bogus contention by the Chiefs coaches and players is that the lines officials will tell you when you’ve lined up over the ball and it’s on you to move back. Toney never really looked to the officials for guidance and as soon as the snap occurred, the flag went flying. Toney was definitely lined up offsides and the touchdown went for naught. Tough Taylors Chiefs fans!
The saddest part of this story is the incessant whining by QB Patrick Mahomes and other Chiefs who seem to feel it’s the official’s job to inform you of your indiscretion. You have two eyes and allegedly the skills to line up properly, so use them!
Last I checked, the officials do not want to be the story. But, sadly, Kadarius Toney thrust them into that position. By the way, do the officials tip off the defense when one of theirs is offside???
