The news broke early Tuesday morning, and you’d swear a world leader or King Charles was being called to testify in Trump’s hush money trial. Nope, it’s just Stephanie Clifford. Or, as we now know her, Stormy Daniels.
To back up, this trial is really not about the accusation that Donald Trump had a tryst with a porn star. As seamy and slimy as that is on the surface, the real trouble stems from the allegations of paying her and others to stay quiet about it leading up to the 2016 presidential election. And, the way those payments may have been funneled through the Trump organization.
We knew Stormy would likely get the call to testify, and her credibility will be tenuous at best. But, she not only claims the affair happened, but also details threats she received afterwards to remain quiet or “things” could happen to her and her family.
The convictability of Trump will most likely hinge on whether jurors believe or dismiss the testimony of Stormy and Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who has said he orchestrated the illegal transactions.
How bizarre: Trump’s fate will rest on whether you believe a porn star and a convicted attorney, or…the former president of our country.
