Beyond the frost level! 3-13-25
This week, we are enjoying considerably warmer weather than we should be experiencing. Normal highs are in the upper 30’s, near 40. We will have FOUR, maybe FIVE days in the 60’s this week, if forecast highs hold true. Are we in a new climate norm?
Sure, warm fronts happen much like the cold fronts we’ve also witnessed this winter. It just seems like we’re trending in the warmer direction, and most of the charting through the years bears that out. Our average temps are rising. With that, the pain for winter advocates is real.
Last year, the sturgeon spearing season was almost nil. This year was so-so, with the ice conditions iffy until just days before the season. And, the snowmobile enthusiasts had a real struggle again this year, after a measly snow season last year. A new norm? Maybe, as it could shift back in the years to come. But, with climate experts talking about record warm years happening with regularity, I can’t help but think that normal winters may not resemble the good old days any longer.
