For 40 years, WHBY’s Good Neighbor Kathy Keene has been a beloved voice on the WHBY airwaves, playing a key role in the station’s success. Along the way, she’s shared her passion for cooking, releasing numerous cookbooks with recipes for all types of occasions.
As part of our celebrations for WHBY’s 100-year anniversary, we are sharing 20 of her best recipes. First up: Kathy Keene’s Favorite Cream Cheese Coffee Cake.

To make this delicious dessert, you will need:
- 2 1 g. packages crescent dinner rolls
- 2 (8 oz.) packages cream cheese, room temperature
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk, reserve white
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Spread one package of crescent rolls in an ungreased 9×13-inch pan.
- In a bowl, combine cream cheese, ¾ cup sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Spread over the crescent roll layer.
- Roll out the second package of crescent rolls and place it over the cream cheese mixture.
- Beat the reserved egg white until frothy, then spread it over the top layer.
- Sprinkle with ¼ cup sugar and chopped nuts.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool, then drizzle with powdered sugar frosting if desired.
