OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Oshkosh Common Council approves a resolution Tuesday asking the state Legislature to allow a half-percent municipal sales tax in those counties that don’t levy a sales tax.
Currently Winnebago and Waukesha counties are the only counties in the state without a sales tax.
State statutes allow second-class communities, like Oshkosh and Green Bay, to levy city sales taxes for additional funding of local services.
Council member D.J. Nichols says the tax provides another revenue source for hub cities like Oshkosh………
Council member Jacob Floam says the timing is not right for such a move, which he also believes should have first been discussed with Winnebago County leaders……..
The resolution passed on a 6-to-1 vote.
