NEENAH, Wis. — A Neenah retailer that opened within a year after the American Civil War, when Andrew Johnson was president and before there was Major League Baseball is closing its doors.
Jim and Brian Webb, the fifth-generation owners of Krueger’s True Value Hardware, announced their retirements over the weekend and the closure of the business.
The Webb’s say their retirement/liquidation sale will begin Tuesday when the store opens for business.
The company was founded in 1866 by William Krueger in downtown Neenah, where it was located for over 100 years before moving to its current location on Winneconne Avenue.
The Webb’s say they had considerable interest from local and national hardware retailers in their store. However, Brian Webb says they were not able to come to an agreement with a prospective buyer and they decided to close the business down.
