MADISON, WI — Wisconsin will have a new governor after next year’s election.
Tony Evers announced Thursday he will not seek a third term.
Governor Evers goes on to say there is more to accomplish before his time in office concludes.
The 73-year-old Evers was elected governor in 2018 and won re-election four years later.
Prior to that, Evers served as Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2009 until 2017.

Two Republicans have entered the 2026 race so far: Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and businessman Bill Berrien.
Following Governor Evers’ announcement that he won’t run for re-election in 2026, Bill Berrien reacted in a Zoom call from a campaign tour. The former Navy Seal says Evers’ decision is not impacting his campaign.
So far, no candidates have officially announced their intentions to run for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
