A snow emergency has been declared in Appleton as a major winter storm continues to impact Northeast Wisconsin.
City officials announced a Class III Snow Emergency beginning at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, March 15, which will remain in effect until further notice.
During the emergency, parking is prohibited on all city streets to allow snowplows and emergency vehicles to operate safely. Vehicles left on streets may be ticketed or towed.
Residents are also urged to avoid unnecessary travel, keep snow from sidewalks and driveways out of the street, and watch for plows and emergency crews working throughout the city.
The storm is also impacting sanitation services. Because the county landfill is closed, garbage collection scheduled for Monday, March 16 will not occur. Pickup will shift one day later for the rest of the week.
Residents are asked to keep garbage and recycling carts out of the street so crews can continue clearing roads.
Updates are available through the City of Appleton website and social media pages. More information about snow emergencies can be found at appletonwi.gov/snow-emergencies.
Officials in Green Bay have extended the city’s Snow Emergency through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, as crews continue clearing streets following the weekend’s historic winter storm.
The City of Green Bay Department of Public Works says every city street has been plowed at least once, but strong winds are blowing snow back onto roads, creating dangerous travel conditions.
Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, as stalled vehicles can block plows and slow snow removal efforts. Snow Emergency parking restrictions remain in effect, and vehicles left on designated routes may be ticketed or towed.
Officials say crews will continue working extended shifts, and some roads could remain difficult to travel through Tuesday. Updates are available through the City of Green Bay.
