The health officer in Winnebago County says a spike in coronavirus cases, among young adults, could be really dangerous for families, and the community as a whole.
More than 44 percent of the county’s confirmed cases over the past 1-1/2 weeks have been between 20 and 29 years old.
Doug Gieryn says young adults could have COVID-19, and only have minor symptoms, or none at all. He says they might be CNAs, or work in bars, restaurants, and child care facilities. He points out they could be passing it onto others at those places, without knowing it.
Gieryn says the jump in cases coincides with the end of the “safer at home” order. He thinks it’s a “kind of a wake up call” that bars, restaurants, and businesses need to take precautions, and try to prevent the spread of coroanvirus.
