The Assembly approved a two year state budget around 10 p.m. after nearly ten hours of debate.
The final vote was 64-34. According to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos the budget achieves two-thirds state funding for K-12 schools and increases funding for special education and mental health by more than $100 million dollars. Vos says they’re investing more and borrowing far less than the governor proposed on local roads.
The centerpiece of the Republican budget is more than $3 billion in tax cuts over two years.
The Senate starts work on the budget bill today and the final package goes to Governor Evers. He can veto portions of the bill or the whole thing.
