More than 500 Appleton parents sign a petition demanding that the school district require masks for all students this fall. The petition filed today points out the Centers for Disease Control and the State Department of Public Instruction have recommended mandatory masking due to an increase in coronavirus activity this summer–and that children under 12 are not eligible for vaccination yet. Last month, the Appleton School Board voted to make masking optional at all grade levels. District officials have not returned our calls for comment.
