Normal operations have resumed at Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton following a chemical gas release in the northwest area of the hospital. The leak was discovered around 9:00 this morning. The hospital followed evacuation procedures, which were lifted at 11:15 A.M. Ascension Wisconsin says 13 patients were transferred to other nearby hospitals as a precautionary measure. The Appleton Fire Department responded and later called in the Hazardous Materials Team 109 from Oshkosh for assistance. Traffic was rerouted around the hospital as emergency responders were operating.
