The people that listen to my show regularly know that I truly believe that the overwhelming majority of people in this state (and country) all want the same outcome. It’s the politics that gets in our way- convincing us that we disagree with each other much more often than we truly do.
I was truly hopeful that the Republican Legislature’s shared revenue plan could be used as a means to spotlight that reality. Unfortunately, it appears as though it may do the opposite.
Despite some agreement on how to generate a pool of money for the shared revenue fund using 20% of the 5% sales tax on goods purchased throughout the state, the dispersal of those funds seems to be presenting some issues that are preventing the legislation from moving forward. As things stand as of the writing of this article, the Governor has stated that he will veto the legislation if changes are not made.
What changes is he looking for? Well, I took some time to chat with Wisconsin State Senator representing the 6th District, LaTonya Johnson, about exactly that.
She partook in listening sessions around the state, and she joined to the program to tell me that towns, cities, and municipalities all over the state seem to share the same concerns about funding for the state, and she shared what she learned with me.
