OSHKOSH, WI — University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh announces hundreds of layoffs as part of an effort to close an $18-million deficit. In a news release issued late Monday afternoon, the university announced layoff notices to 140 employees. Those layoffs involve administrative employees and staff and not faculty members. Those layoffs take effect on January 20, 2024. The reduction in employees is in addition to 76 UWO employees who’ve accepted voluntary retirement packages. Their last day of employment is January 9, 2024. UWO is also leaving 34.5 vacant positions unfilled. In all, 250 employees are impacted by the layoffs, voluntary retirements and vacant positions. According to the news release, those are resulting in $14.7-millon in salary savings.
