Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take, 11-10-23
When it comes to leaves, I’m a mulcher not a raker. Allow me to explain.
I have considerably more evergreen trees in my yard than deciduous trees, but the ones that do drop leaves are really good at it! That said, I do not like to rake them up and make a mess on my boulevard. I prefer to mulch them, which I understand is a much eco-friendlier act and better for my yard!
By mulching the leaves, I am pumping plenty of needed nitrogen back into my yard. I can see the results: my yard in leaf-heavy areas just looks healthier, greener, fuller.
Looking back, this summer was tough on the yard. The drought didn’t just strip my yard of needed moisture, but created pockets of “dead” areas that are now coming back slowly and semi-patchy. It’s going to take some good snow pack and a fairly wet spring to get most of our yards back to “normal.”
To each his own, but for me it’s mulch time!
