WAUPACA, Wis–The Waupaca County Republican Party takes Congressman Mike Gallagher to task for his early resignation from the House of Representatives. In a statement posted on Facebook, Party Chairman Joel Bartel calls Gallagher’s decision “a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of the citizens”. The statement also refers to Gallagher’s service as a U-S Marine and claims that “no Marine would ever leave his post even when times are tough”.
The party wants Gallagher to resign now–so a new Congressperson could be appointed to fill the seat. The statement claims that the county party will never support Gallagher for a political office again. The resignation reduces the Republican majority in the House to just one.
