MENASHA, Wis. — In November of 2023 Menasha Mayor Don Merkes announced he wouldn’t be running for a fifth term as mayor.
Merkes has served as Menasha’s mayor since 2008. He was also an alder for three years.
On Tuesday, April 2 Menasha residents will select a new mayor. On the ballot are Rebecca Nichols and Austin Hammond.
Before election day we welcomed Merkes to Focus Fox Valley to reflect on 16 years with the city. He spoke about the moments he’s proudest of and what the community has meant to him.
We also also discussed downtown developments, housing projects, economic development and Mayor Merkes gave a small hint to what the future might hold for him.
