Dave Edwards and So, How’s your week going
Bryson DeChambeau
6-19-24
I bet Bryson’s week is going really well, thank you!
Bryson DeChambeau just won his second U.S. Open golf title, coming back to defeat a faltering Rory McIlroy at Pinehurst #2. And honestly, I’m kinda O.K. with that.
Bryson was for a time a hard guy to like. He was somewhat standoffish, robotic, impersonal…and rubbed a lot of his fellow players in the wrong way as well. Then, he bolted to the LIV tour to play his golf for the Saudis. But lately, we’re seeing a different Bryson. He’s more engaging, more fan-friendly and less of a stoic…jerk. His impressive power excites the fans and his competent short game wins him trophies. And a lot of money!
One other item that endeared him to more fans this weekend: his homage to U.S Open Champion, Payne Stewart, who won at Pinehurst just months before he lost his life in a plane crash. Not only has Bryson dressed like Payne in past years, he has worn pins and other effects that remind the fans of Bryson’s deep respect for Stewart and his family.
Add to that the victory tour Bryson has had with the U.S. Open trophy, which has been touched by thousands of fans since his victory on Sunday. It’s a connection that many will never forget, from a man that had become for many, forgettable.
