State lawmakers and candidates from northeast Wisconsin talked about ways to pay for roads during a forum in Grand Chute yesterday.
They were at Fox Valley Technical College.
The Democratic candidate for governor, Tony Evers, says they need to consider a variety of options. He says the state can’t keep borrowing money. He says 20 percent of the transportation budget is debt service, and that money goes to investors who make more off of it.
Republican Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc says it’s a complex issue. He supports raising the gas tax, but he says a five-cent increase per gallon wouldn’t solve the funding problem.
