There could be a big school referendum in Neenah in April.
The school board is scheduled to vote tonight on a nearly $130 million question.
District spokesman Jim Strick says about $84 million of that would pay for a new middle school for seventh and eighth graders. Another $31 million would be spent on upgrades at every elementary school.
Strick says they’ve studied their building needs for two years and held a district-wide survey several months ago. He says the board is following the community’s response.
Strick says all of their buildings are at least 50 years old, and the district hasn’t held a building referendum since 1995.
A consultant initially presented three options, and each would’ve cost more than $250 million.
If voters would approve the referendum, property taxes would rise by $167 per $100,000 of value.
Tonight’s school board meeting is at the district office at 6 p.m.
