The latest round of grants is out to fight poverty in the region and a program for young adults will benefit.
Pillars and NAMI Fox Valley started the Ascend Initiative about a year-and-a-half ago. The Basic Needs Giving Partnership is pledging $300,000 over three years to help people between 18 and 25 and with a mental illness.
Joe Mauthe is the executive director of Pillars. He says they’ll work from an education, employment, and a mental health standpoint to get them ready to live independently in a couple years. He says hopefully that will keep them from having to stay in a homeless shelter.
Nearly $1.6 million in grants will go to programs in the Fox Cities, Oshkosh, and Green Bay areas. The money was raised at the annual U.S. Venture Open.
