An Oconto man is one of 18 to be named Carnegie heroes for acts of extraordinary heroism.
Sixty-five-year-old welder Eugene Stamsta helped save a 75-year-old woman from drowning in the Oconto River last year.
Stamsta jumped into the river, wearing his tool belt, and swam to the woman who was going under.
He towed her limp body to shore so others could pull her out.
She survived.
Two of the 18 heroes were teenagers and three gave their lives attempting to save other people.
