A top Republican is reacting to the plan from Governor Evers to raise the gas tax and dump the minimum markup law.
The Democrat is proposing an eight-cent gas tax increase. He believes dropping the minimum markup rule would save 14 cents a gallon, to more than offset the hike.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek wants a more long-term solution to transportation funding. He thinks they need to look at a broader approach than just hammering on the gas tax.
Steineke supports repealing the minimum markup law and he thinks it’s something Republicans can work with Evers on.
Steineke says repealing minimum markup is actually a bipartisan issue, but some Republicans and Democrats oppose it.
He was a guest on Fresh Take with Josh Dukelow on WHBY this morning.
