Overall reading scores are up in the Fox Cities area, but some minority groups still aren’t doing well.
That’s according to the latest update of the Life Study. It covers Outagamie, Winnebago, and Calumet counties.
Tony Gonzalez of the United Way Fox Cities says they’re seeing a continued opportunity gap between white students and ethnic minority students.
For third-graders, 51 percent of white students were proficient in reading last year. The figure was 20 percent for African-American students, and 21 percent for Hispanics.
High school graduation rates climbed last year.
The latest Life Study also looked at topics like poverty and child abuse.
Gonzalez will talk more about them on Fresh Take with Josh Dukelow on WHBY this morning.
