Governor Evers doesn’t have any more immediate plans now that a judge is blocking the lame-duck laws that limited his powers.
Not long after today’s ruling Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul took steps to withdraw Wisconsin from a multi-state lawsuit challenging the federal health care reform law. Majority Republicans took away powers from the governor and attorney general just before the two Democrats took office.
Evers says his staff is reviewing the decision by Dane County Judge Richard Niess. He says the decision was an important one, and he’s happy it’s reached this point.
A coalition of liberal-leaning groups argue the extraordinary session that GOP lawmakers called was illegal. Republicans are expected to appeal.
