The reopening of the former Appleton Coated paper mill in Combined Locks is getting some national attention.
The New York Times ran a lengthy article on the front page of Sunday’s business section. The mill reopened under new ownership last year several months after it was shut down. About 600 workers were let go. Around 300 people work there now making brown paper for cardboard.
Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson is reacting to the article. He says the rest of the country is taking notice of a model created by Appleton Coated. He says it can help industry here and around the country.
The article also highlighted the history of papermaking in the Fox Valley.
