Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul wants more funding for the State Crime Lab.
Governor Tony Evers’ proposed budget calls for an increase of about $1.9 million for the facility.
Brown County Sheriff Todd DeLain supports the measure pointing out the key role the lab played in a local case. Workers used DNA to identify George Burch as a suspect in the 2016 murder of Nicole VanderHeyden. He says cases where the suspect doesn’t know the victim are the most difficult, and the state crime lab helped solve it.
The Crime Lab funding request is getting bi-partisan support in the Legislature.
