Green Bay police K-9 Pyro is coming back to work.
Chief Andrew Smith says the dog is being cleared for light-duty, about three weeks after Pyro was stabbed in the neck area. He says Pyro will be able to do some drug sniffs and training, but they’ll have to wait for other things that require him to be on a leash.
Dr. Sue Leonard of the Fox Valley Animal Referral Center in Grand Chute says they’ll be reevaluating Pyro every week. She says because of concerns about Pyro’s throat, they don’t want to use a leash, so he won’t be able to do any tracking. He’ll be wearing a different type of harness around his body.
Pyro’s handler, Officer Scott Salzmann is thanking everyone for their thoughts and concerns. He believes some miraculous things happened with Pyro, and he says that’s because of everyone’s support.
