The chair of the Outagamie County board says if people from the county have to pay half-cent sales tax when they’re in other places around the state, visitors should have to do the same in Outagamie County.
Supervisor Jeff Nooyen supports the proposed tax.
A study shows it could bring in 20 million dollars in revenue in the first year. Nooyen points out 25 percent of that could be from visitors. He believes that figure is conservative, and the actual total could be higher.
The proposal calls for using some of the sales tax revenue to lower property taxes.
The county’s finance committee could vote on the tax in a couple of weeks.
