More people are dying in Wisconsin, but the state’s growing elderly population is living longer.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services looked at the number of deaths in 2017. They were up 15 percent compared to a decade ago. But the death rate for people 65 and older decreased by 10 percent over 10 years.
The top three causes of death were heart disease, cancer, and unintentional injury. Poisoning accounts for 30 percent of all unintentional injuries, and falls make up 42 percent.
