No one forgets there first EAA AirVenture, and that goes for Chair Jack Pelton too.
Pelton says he never saw anything like it, with so many “crazy aviation people all in one place.” He says the variety of planes was also impressive.
While there were a lot of other great airshows at that time, none of them were quite like the EAA’s fly-in.
Pelton’s first trip to Oshkosh was as a 17-year-old, in 1977. He also remembers that he was able to drink beer with his father while they were in town, because of Wisconsin’s state law.
