The high water on the Great Lakes is having a positive impact on the shipping industry.
Port of Green Bay Director Dean Haen says for every inch of water, ships can carry another 100 tons. He says right now, water levels are about 30 inches above average.
The shipping industry really benefits, because their fixed costs are the same, but they can carry more product.
He says the number of tons passing through the port was up 20 percent last month, compared to July of last year.
Haen also understands the negative impacts of the high water, especially along the shorelines.
