A Democratic lawmaker from Oshkosh wants to ensure more children are getting vaccinated.
Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz is bringing back a proposal to eliminate the ability for parents to opt out for personal reasons. He thinks people don’t realize the impact vaccines have had over the years. He says it was one of the biggest health and science successes of the 20th century, and it’s scary to see a comeback of something as serious as the measles.
Wisconsin is one of 15 states in the country with the exemption for personal reasons. Hintz says because of that the state’s opt-out rate of more than five percent is twice the national average.
Governor Evers supports the bill saying there are some requirements the state must have to keep everybody safe.
