Sheriff’s deputies believe a drunk driver hit a 34-year-old woman with his car, after he broke into her garage, east of Chilton.
Calumet County Sheriff Mark Wiegert says she’s in critical condition. The house is in the 5600 block of Irish Road in the Town of Rantoul.
Wiegert says the woman heard someone in the garage around 3:30 a.m. today. He says she saw a car parked across the street, and the driver hit her, when she went to talk to the 21-year-old Hilbert man.
Another deputy spotted a car, in a ditch, about a mile away from the home. Wiegert says the man was treated for minor injuries, and taken to the Calumet County jail.
Wiegert is recommending charges of causing injury while driving drunk, and burglary.
The woman was flown by helicopter to ThedaCare’s hospital in Neenah.
