The number of deaths from lung cancer is dropping.
They’re down almost 12 percent, since 2013.
American Lung Association spokeswoman Dona Wininsky points out that it’s still the top cancer killer of men and women in the U.S. She says about 4,000 people in Wisconsin are expected to be diagnosed with lung cancer this year, and statistics show half of them will die within five years.
She says a lot of research is being done, and there are more than 20 new, very promising treatments. She says early diagnosis is crucial.
Wininsky urges people to take a quiz, to see if a low-dose CT scan would help detect any problems.
