The carpentry program at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is seeing more women picking up tools.
Instructor Jeff Schlag says they started the year with five women, after not having anybody during the past couple of years.
Hannah Clemens left her job at a hospital after her hours were changed. She says she realized that’s not what she wants to do for the rest of her life, and that it’s always been her dream to be a carpenter.
Federal figures show women accounted for nearly 10 percent of all jobs in the trades last year.
