Local police departments say they won’t be pulling over random drivers, or setting up checkpoints, during the “safer at home” order.
People also don’t need documentation with them, showing that they are allowed to travel.
Police will also be watching non-essential businesses. Oshkosh Police Chief Dean Smith says they can expect a visit, if they’re not following the order to close.
Smith intends to give warnings the first time, and make it clear that the business doesn’t meet the state’s criteria for “essential services.”
Non-essential businesses could be fined $250, and the owner could spend up to 30 days in jail.
