Mandatory masking is no longer a city ordinance in Oshkosh. Common Council members rescinded the mandatory face covering ordinance during a special session on Friday. It had been enacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That decision follows Centers for Disease Control guidelines issued Thursday allowing those who’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19 to go maskless. Council member Michael Ford has support mandatory masking but now says it’s time to move on.
Council Member Aaron Wojciechowski also supports ending the masking requirement, but not ignoring the coronavirus threat.
Council Member Lynnsey Erickson, however, voted against ending the masking policy because many Oshkosh resident have not been vaccinated.
The council voted 6-to-1 in favor of rescinding the masking ordinance. Oshkosh City Council also approved a resolution that encourages residents to comply with C-D-C COVID-19 guidelines and to get a COVID-19 vaccination. They also added language to the resolution recognizing the need to continue masking on public transportation.
