OSHKOSH, Wis–The DNR may allow the city of Oshkosh to continue to store municipal water in underground tanks, but it will come at a steep price. The state wants the city’s water utility to replace underground clear wells with above ground tanks. But City Manager Mark Rohloff says the DNR would be willing to let Oshkosh keep the clear wells for another couple of decades, provided the city spend money to upgrade the tanks and add another purification process–at a cost of 26-million dollars……………..
Two other options presented to the Oshkosh Common Council this week would call for the construction of 34-foot high circular tanks along the shore of Lake Winnebago for 16-million dollars, or lower-profile rectangular tanks for 20-point-five million.
