Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take, 6-2-23
How old were you when you first competed in a large-scale event? Maybe 16 at a sporting event or school play, 14 or 15 at a gymnastics or youth technology event? How about 2 in a Spelling Bee?
Akash Vukoti just completed his 6th attempt to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee, bowing out in the early stages when he misspelled the word “graisse”, which according to sources is a disease of white wines and ciders. Oh, by the way, Akash is 14 years old. And yes, his first attempt at fame was in a spelling bee in Virginia…at the age of 2!
Akash, who hails from Texas, had the previous record of competing in the Bee at the age of 6, and can now mentor all of the “youngsters” who might seek out his sage advice. That retirement party at Chucky Cheese ought to be a doozy!
