APPLETON, Wis. — Appleton Memorial Park on Witzke Drive will officially be renamed to honor all military veterans.
The Appleton Common Council voted Wednesday to change its name to Veterans Memorial Park.
It would replace the current Veterans Park on S. Memorial Drive near the Fox River, which veterans groups say has no facilities to host veterans events and no memorials to those who’ve served.
Alder Martyn Smith says while he supports the idea, he believes more planning is needed……..
Alder Katie Van Zeeland believes that renaming Memorial Park would be a better tribute……..
The motion to approve the name change to Veterans Memorial Park passed on a 13-1 vote.
