TOWN OF FOND DU LAC, Wis. — A town of Fond du Lac man is jailed following a nearly 10-hour standoff and an arson incident at a neighboring home.
Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputies were dispatch to a home near the intersection of Townline Road and Waterway Drive just before 3 a.m. Friday.
Residents at a home there were awakened by their home security system.
Surveillance video showed a man use an accelerant to set a fire to the exterior of their home. The fire burned itself out before deputies arrived.
The suspect was identified as a resident of a nearby home where he barricaded himself in the basement. The sheriff’s office SWAT team and crisis negotiators attempted to get the suspect to surrender. That included the unsuccessful use of tear gas.
After an armored vehicle ram punched a hole in the building, the 32-year-old man surrendered just after 1 p.m.
He’s in the Fond du Lac County Jail on numerous felony charges.
