Distracted driving crashes in Brown County are on the rise.
Sheriff’s Capt. Dan Sandberg over the last two years, they’ve recorded about 1,000 of them. He says the numbers aren’t surprising, and the actual total is probably higher. He says that’s because they have to work off of what drivers tell them, after a crash.
Sandberg says eating, playing with the radio or GPS, and being on a cellphone can be distractions. Police can ticket people for inattentive driving and the fine is nearly $200.
