After years of data showing persistent poverty among some women in the area, the Women’s Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation knew they needed to try something new.
In addition to new approaches to grant-making, they teamed up with the Oshkosh Herald to fund and publish a nine-part series exploring what life is like for women and children living in poverty and how the “benefits cliff” can sometimes keep them from moving off assistance to independence.
Poverty is a complex problem with no clear cause or solution. This series hopes to bring attention to the unique needs of this group, and engage business and community leaders in a discussion about innovative, local solutions.
