One year ago tomorrow Jayme Closs was kidnapped, and her parents were killed.
Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald took time today to honor Closs, investigators, and the community. He credited Closs for showing courage, resiliance and hope, during her ordeal.
Jake Patterson abducted her, and held her in a secluded cabin for 88 days. Closs was able to escape.
Patterson is serving a life prison sentence, with no chance for parole.
Closs says she’s thankful for the kindness and concern from people all over the country, and she’s feeling stronger every day.
She issued a statement today.
Closs says she’s getting back to the activities she enjoys, and she loves hanging out with her friends.
A family attorney says the 14-year-old is working very hard on her emotional well-being.
