Republicans are starting a push to rein in the veto powers of the governor by holding a hearing on a proposed constitutional amendment.
It would ban governors from using their veto pen to increase spending.
Majority Republicans in the Legislature are angry that Governor Evers used partial vetoes to give public schools $65 million more than they included in the plan.
Lawmakers need to approve constitutional amendments during two consecutive sessions of the Legislature, and then voters have to pass it, in a statewide referendum.
A Senate committee started the process today.
