The top official in Outagamie County says he’s pushing his own plan for using sales tax revenue because he doesn’t support what the county board agreed to do with it.
County Executive Tom Nelson’s proposed budget initially called for putting all $20 million toward county property tax relief. Earlier this week, he decided to give $10 million of it to communities and school districts, and he hopes they use the money the same way.
When the county board overrode Nelson’s veto of the half-cent sales tax earlier this year, members also agreed to a plan for the revenue. It would be used to lower property taxes, reduce debt and borrowing, and provide funding to communities and school districts.
The county’s finance committee is asking the full county board to stick to that plan.
