Battleground state Wisconsin played a big role in launching JFK to the White House.
In the book “Wisconsin for Kennedy: The Primary that Launched a President and Changed the Course of History,” author B.J. Hollars brings to life the stories behind JFK’s history-making 1960 Wisconsin primary campaign and writes how Kennedy’s team managed to outplay his opponent, Hubert Humphrey.
The book was published March 12 from the Wisconsin Historical Society Press.
A few Fox Valley events caught my eye in the book,
- When John Kennedy and opponent Hubert Humphrey posed beside a barn in Clintonville for LIFE magazine.
- A reporter from Appleton asking a question that led to a last-minute addition to a story by Milwaukee Journal reporter Ira Kapenstein.
Author B.J. Hollars, professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, joined Hayley Tenpas during Focus Fox Valley to discuss his book and the research he poured into it.
